Simple Steamed Artichokes with Lemon Garlic
ARTICHOKES ARE HERE!!! One of the most awesome veggies in the world is FINALLY in season. If you have never made them, this is a good place to start. If you already love them... just wait until you dip those little petals in Lemon Garlic!
What you need
1 lemon, halved
4 globe artichokes
coarse salt and ground pepper
2 tablespoons Tessemae’s Lemon Garlic, plus more for serving
What to do
Squeeze the lemon into a bowl and add cold water. As you work, dip the artichokes in this lemon water. It will stop them from turning brown.
Using a sharp knife, slice off the top third of the artichoke. You should see the pale green center leaves and even some purple. Slice off the stem and peel away any little leaves near the base. Use kitchen scissors to cut off the tips of the outer petals.
Fill a large pot with an inch of water. If you have a steamer basket, add it. If not, just add the artichokes, stem end down. Drizzle with Lemon Garlic and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover and steam until the base of each artichoke is easily pierced with the tip of a knife, about 30 minutes.
Two choices: One, serve the artichokes as is and let your friends and family scoop out the choke as they eat. Two, use a spoon to scoop out the center leaves, then scrape out the purple leaves and fuzz before serving. Either way, serve with plenty of Lemon Garlic for dipping.
