Cedar Plank BBQ Salmon
Between our awesome BBQ sauce and the smoky cedar flavor, this fish is not messing around. It's meaty, flavor packed and SO EASY to make.
What you need
2-4 cedar (or other wood) grilling planks *see tip
coarse salt and ground pepper
½ cup Tessemae’s Matty’s BBQ Sauce
4 salmon filets (6 ounces each)
What to do
Submerge the wood planks in water for at least 2 hours. Leave them in the water until the last step.
In a baking dish, season the salmon with salt and pepper, then pour the BBQ over top. Let marinate at least 15 minutes at room temperature or up to one day refrigerated.
Heat your grill to medium high. When the grill is ready to go, remove the planks from the water and line them on a baking sheet. Place the salmon fillets, skin side down, on the planks. Move the planks to the grill, cover, and cook until the salmon is opaque throughout, 8-10 minutes. Be sure to have a spray bottle of water or glass of water handy. If the planks catch on fire (like ours did!) just spritz the flame to put it out.
Transfer the planks back to the baking sheet and let rest a few minutes before serving. Remove the fish from larger planks, or serve individual planks right on your dinner plate! Be sure to have plenty more BBQ sauce on the side.
Tip: Cedar and other varieties of wood planks can be found in many grocery stores these days. Look for 2 planks, that can each fit 2 fillets, or 4 smaller “fillet sized” planks.
